  • New kona driver screwed up system?

Posted by Christopher Karcher on August 30, 2006 at 4:13 am

I attempted to install the new Kona drivers on my dual 2.5 and K2/xraid suite and now the card is not visible for any installer or the system. I ran the uninstaller, manually removed the installed files and the recipts, zapped the Pram, swapped the card to a different slot and the system profiler still does not even see the K2 card.

It must have something to do with the new driver because immediately after I attempted the install, the K2 card went MIA.

anyone have any suggestions? I’m desperate to get my system back up and running.

install the older drivers and see if that brings it back up.

I tried installing v2.0 and v 1.2 and the installer errors out.

It looks like ver 1.14 on the aja website is a corrupt zip file, because it errors during expansion.

does anyone have the original installer file they can email me and i’ll give it a shot? ( I can’t find my original installer disc right now)

Run the uninstaller (yes again). Open FCP, quit FCP. Then try installing the latest drivers again.

Thanks for the suggestions at such a late hour…I just tried your suggestion and the installer is still giving me an error. below is the log from the installer- it gives me the same error when trying to install any version of the kona installer- also the kona card is not visibleto the firmware updater as well: a dialog above the updater says: No Kona hardware installed.

    I am totally baffled!

Well, obviously the problem is that it took just under 2 seconds to unsuccessfully install the AJA drivers. 🙂 Just kidding. I don’t know what the log means except the only thing I see is “BomFatalError – cpio read error: bad file format”. Don’t know how to fix that. Can you remember what you started deleting will nilly? I use the uninstaller only as I always feel I’ll delete something that the system needs when I do stuff manually. Perhaps a reinstall of FCP might fix this problem.

[christopher karcher] “Install: “AJA KONA Software 2.0 built Thu Jun 1 17:13:14 PDT 2006″”

That is not what my installer says is a current version.
which OS and QT are you using using

[christopher karcher] “reflight[280]: rm: //Applications/AJA Kona Utilities: is a directory”

and if you did an uninstall WHY do these Kona Folders exist prior to installing them?

    One more thing

I have always found that I get the best results when using the latest versions of the Uninstaller also.
Have you tried loading the latest version of the driver again? (over the top of the previous install)

installing a driver twice on some systems can fix install problems (network admin issues)

if the card is still not showing up after trying to install the V3 builds
use the LATEST version of the uninstaller (the one with v3 build) to remove all of the contents correctly.

If I could, i would use the most recent uninstaller… however the installer never gets far enough to install the uninstaller. it basically installs the FCP components ands the control app along with the folder for the utilities (with no utilities inside).

It seems to me you have deleted something that the installer is looking for and when it can’t find it, it craps out. That’s why I’m thinking a reinstall of FCP would help put things back in their proper places. I’d call AJA when you get a chance.

SOLVED: Rudy at AJA tech support was great this morning. Basically there was a problem on my system when decompressing the downloaded installer. The system defaults to using BOMarchivehelper- we forced it to use stuffit expander and the installer worked like a charm.

My system back up and running- now I can layoff my project today. YAY!
