Film frame rate question??
I’ve been given footage that originated on 35 mm and was then transferred to digibeta. The footage was shot over-cranked at 60 FPS, however, the telecined footage appears to be playing back at “normal speed” from the digi – almost as if it was transferred at straight 24 fps. When I capture through the Kona into Final Cut I can see that 3:2 pulldown has been added and there is definitely not an overcranked quality to it. It’s been a little while since I’ve had overcranked footage telecined, but I thought in the past that for 60 FPS film footage I was given digibetas that appeared to playback at half speed at 29.97 and then I just used to speed them up 2X in Final Cut if I needed to bring them back to the speed that the action was originally recorded. I could be completely rememberring incorrectly though. Is it possible that the telecine operator did not transfer the film at the frame rate that it was shot and mistakenly transferred at straight 24? I was on set for the shoot so I know that the footage was shot correctly by the DP at 60 FPS. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
