I am sure this question gets asked once a week, bu tI couldn’t seem to find the answer anywhere.

I am doing a “mini-uprez” for festival purposes from MiniDV to DigiBeta. I realize crap in is crap out, and that there is a small and almost noticeable difference between bringing DV in firewire vs SDI, but I am planning on just switching my timeline to uncompressed (adjusting the position of the clips to the correct field) doing some small color correction in the 4:2:2 color space, rendering out the sequence and then laying back to tape.

My question however is this. I have access to a Blackmagic set-up and the director has access to a Kona set up. Is it possible for me to do all the preliminary work, including the rendering, then take my SATA drives to his set up for final approval and lay back to tape?

That is, are the render files created in the black magic codec readable for the kona? From what I remember they are interchangeable right?

    Thanks,
    Rick

P.S. Since I am sure I will hear it – let me know if I am crazy even bothering doing this whole process or if just outputting the DV timeline into the DgiBeta Deck will suffice.

Just capture / edit in DV and then just use either your Kona card or the BlackMagic to output directly the DigiBeta / BetaSP, whatever. That’s probably the easiest route.

Or simply capture all your DV using Apple’s 8bit Uncompressed codec which both machines will read as well.
