Yes, it is. When using a Keyspan adaptor (and changing to keyspan RS422 connection) the deck control works, but not via the LHe.

the LHe came with cables that you don’t use because of the K Box. You can bypass the K Box, and use the 9 pin that came with the original board, to eliminate the possiblity of the KL box.
If you see that everything is selected correctly in Audio/Video settings/Device Control, and the VTR is plugged directly in (no AB boxes, no patch bays, no extention cables), and you still get no device, I would uninstall the drivers, reload the drivers, trash the FCP preferences. If you do all of this, and still no VTR control, you’ve got a bad board.

Since you are using a KL-BOX with your LHe, you need to use a straight 9pin to 9pin cable to connect from the KL-BOX to the VTR. Don’t use the 9pin cable that comes with the VTR as it will not work.
As Bob suggested, use the breakout cable which has the RS422 port and see if it works. That will determine if the fault is with the KL-BOX or the LHe card itself.
However I would try a straight 9pin to 9pin cable first.

Crispy has posted incorrect information. The Sony 9 pin RS422 cable is a “pin to pin” cable – where pin 1 goes to pin 1, pin 2 goes to pin 2, etc.
This cable defines the simple industry standard as a RS422 cable.I am simply urging that this gentlemen use the AJA supplied breakout cable with the Kona LH, as it comes with an “attached” 9 pin, so he can confirm that he does not have a cable issue.

Yes, that is definitely the way to narrow down an issue. If that breakout cable works, then the KL Box would be the next thing to look at.

Go to System Preferences and Network Settings and check to see that “Kona Serial” is in the list. If so, you will need to double check your settings again in FCP. I haven’t tried this, but you can check the AJA VTR application too to see if it works as well.
It could be a bad cable too. Try swapping cables… the Keyspan interface you mentioned has its own cable.Ron

sorry folks that I’ve given the wrong info…I remember a while back that someone tried using the 9pin cable that came with the VTR and it didn’t work so I’d assume that those cables are wired specifically for edit controller to VTR.
