  • What does Kona do with 1080 25P?

Currently working on a 108025P project, I became aware of some interesting results to the monitors which has me wondering how Kona2 actually processes a 108025P source. Looking through the spec there is no mention of support for 25P at 1080, it only mentions 50i at 1080. I have noticed the Blackmagic’s HD cards do include 108025P in their spec.

The issues I have been seeing (or have talked myself into seeing) out to our HD Sony LMD monitor are a strange refresh (plus the Sony auto-detects the signal being fed into it as 50i) and then the SD downconvert out to a CRT shows some strange interlace artefacting whenever there is some reasoable horizontal movement. Given the source is progressive, I wouldn’t have thought this would be the case (I am less concerned on this one though given it is a hardware downconversion, just thought it might be useful to workout what is going on)

I need to work out if there are issues with the project which has all been originated in After Effects or whether Kona is just having problems outputting it to the monitor and once it eventually reaches celluloid and it’s other incarnations it will be ok.

Also, would Blackmagic’s HD cards do a different job since they do support 25P at 1080.

    Thoughts?
