  • NTSC to PAL for DVD (In Kona 2?)

Posted by Scott Shucher on October 7, 2005 at 7:57 pm

I have to deliver a DVD to England so it can be viewed in PAL.
The original format out of the Kona2 will be NTSC DV, making an
MPEG 2 in either Compressor or Bit Vice, then burn with DVDSP4.

Is their a difference between a NTSC & PAL Mpeg2 file?

I haven’t had to work with PAL before. Can someone help me understand the process?

Yes there is a difference between MPEG 2 NTSC and MPEG 2 PAL. I think that in DVD SP 4 you can convert from NTSC to PAL. Haven’t tried that though.

You can try using this FCP plug in:

    https://www.nattress.com/standardsConversion.htm

I have used it in the past for converting to PAL.

    Hi Scott,

Are you sure you need a PAL DVD? All PAL DVD players will play an NTSC DVD. They output a signal with the PAL color space and NTSC resolution and frame rate. Most TV’s produced since about mid 1990 can display that signal.

No, I did not know that. That’s why these forums are so great! As are the people who post & reply on them

    Hi,

Should have said most PAL TV’s.

    Best Wishes,
