  • Audio Level Question…

Posted by Fred Connors jr. on August 11, 2005 at 8:45 pm

    Hello fellow pasture dwellers.

If I take a -20db audio signal and feed it in to a KONA2 via AES or SDI, and use FCP 5.x in Log&Capture mode, the KONA2 loops it back out to all of the outputs at exactly -20db, so far so good. But the FCP meters show the audio is at -22db. If I capture this audio it plays back at -22db. If I play back a file created by pro tools at -20db, ut plays prefectly at -20db.

I know I have the output slider of the system prefs sound set at 67%.

I have tried to adjust the input level of the system prefs sound but it seems to have not effect on getting FCP to see the signal for what it really it?

    Any Thought?

    Thanks

“I know I have the output slider of the system prefs sound set at 67%.”

Can I get some clarification on this. Is the output of the KONA actually affected by this slider bar?

I have the same problem, I was waiting for the next driver to hopefully fix the issue.

The output slider in System Preferences Sound must be set to 67% for the KONA2 to be at unity.

Do you see this as a KONA or FCP issue?

    Thanks

    Hi Fred-

Our next driver release contains the fix for the problem with the audio input level. In the “Setup” tab of the Kona Control Panel, there will be a checkbox labeled “Ignore Audio Gain” . When this is checked the Kona board will ignore audio input gain commands from FCP and set the audio input gain to unity.

This new driver is currently in beta, and will be released soon.

    Thank you,

I’m not sure, but my Io (2.0 driver) doesn’t have the problem.

Can someone please give me a step by step to set this to the very precise number of 67% until the new driver is released.

I can not believe that a simple system slider would override the performance of the board. Part of the reason we install these professional cards is to create an environment of perfect I/O unity.

It is good to know that it is being fixxed in the beta.

    thanks,

    David

I believe the newer version of the kona software automatically set this for you. (Could be wrong about this, but it was set when I did a clean install for tiger, never hurts to check though) Use this link to AJAs website for all the info on this. https://www.aja.com/pdfs/KONA2_Audio_FAQ.pdf
