  • What to look out for at NAB 2016

    Hi guys,

what would be the “don’t miss to check this out” for archiving and back-up at NAB 2016?

    Easy to use.
Not in the size for a broadcaster, more of a medium size production company with 5-20 seats of Avid.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,
    Robert

While TOLIS Group won’t be there, CatDV / Squarebox will be. The combo of CatDV Pegasus, DAX Broadcast Archive, and BRU Server provide a completely integrated management and archival solution that is both cost effective for small to mid-range shops. Once configured, the entire process from ingest and logging to archive and retrieval are managed completely from within the CatDV desktop application. Your editors / loggers don’t need to be IT specialists to archive or restore a single clip or an entire project.

We offer complete packages that include everything (software, tape, disk storage) except your Mac or Linux system hardware to act as the server. And, if you purchase from TOLIS Group, we will install and perform your initial configuration as part of the purchase.

LTO 7 will be front and center at every booth with archival solutions, and it’s well worth a look.

Just so you and all readers here are aware, as with the release of LTO 6 three or four years ago, there is now a huge premium on all LTO 7 hardware now, while manufacturers and distributors attempt to capitalize on the appeal of the new and silmultaneously clear out as much older LTO 6 product as they can. Within a few short months after NAB, you should that premium disappear, and LTO 7 products will start selling for a more reasonable price, much closer to that of what LTO 6 has been selling for in recent times.

The cost of LTO 7 tapes will also drop quite a bit as more hardware is adopted, so buy a few pieces at a time as you need them initially until the price goes down, otherwise you’ll be paying through the nose.

    Hi Robert –

We’d (StorageDNA) love to chat with you – specifically on your Avid archiving/workflow needs. While CatDV is certainly a great solution, which we support and integrate well with – I’m no sure it would be the right choice for you given your Avid environment.

DNAevolution is a turnkey standalone archiving solution that knows AAF/ALE constructs out of the box – no integration with a MAM necessary, or if you prefer we do work with just about any MAM out there as well.

But you asked for a something easy to use – which is why you should come to our booth at NAB (SL10113) and see for yourself the simple, yet comprehensive set of tools DNAevolution provides – including both Avid and Adobe project-based backup and archiving.

    Best Regards,

    Doug

Also, we’re seeing a lot of LTO-7 purchases with the customers sticking with LTO-6 media for the time being. Then when the LTO-7 media price drops, they’ve already got the hardware in place to move to the higher capacity of the Gen-7 media.
