  • What are the best SATA drives to buy for RAIDs at the moment?

Looking at buying 10 drives as first part of a 16 drive RAID.

Probably 2tb drives. This seems to be the current sweet spot.
But wondering what models people are using when building RAIDs at the moment.

Drives are going to go in an Infortrend or Dothill chassis.
We are going to use the RAID as direct attached storage for a Linux file server for a short while.
Then repurpose the RAID to use as nearline storage.

    Any thoughts?

    you only have 3 choices
    Western Digital
    Hitachi
Seagate (Samsung division sold to Seagate).

I use Hitachi – but you have to get what you can get.

Why not ask Dot Hill what they recommend.
