acquired some gear
Hey Guys,
I have been reading some in the forum and realize that there are many configurations that can work for different purposes. I recently came into a pile of server gear under interesting circumstances. my first inclination was to sell it all off and start fresh trying to build a small san, but i have been thinking about whether this would be decent stuff to try to use to cobble soemthing together. I have some thoughts to sell some of it and use some, too.
I would like to finish with a cross platform data network that is fast enough edit avc-intra hd footage to two mac mbp laptops after ingesting through a pc laptop with w pcmcia slot, giving me the ability to track the footage in p2cms database on that pc laptop for searching and cut the footage at the macs.the gear list is:

4) Rackmount Flat Panel/Keyboard ($500)
5) (4) Dell 1950 rack Servers with 7200 spinsmy thought was to possibly put windows server 2008 on them. i wanted to try to put ubuntu linux on them based on the low upfront cost but i don’t think that is worth the complexity to me with so many other problems to worry about in my company. anyone have any thoughts on this stuff as a start to a video post production san?
