  • Need new media drive, USB C or Thunderbolt 2 with adaptor?

Posted by John Andersen on February 21, 2017 at 10:23 pm

I am going to buy an 8tb hard drive for editing in premiere on Windows 10.
It will be my media / projects drive.
Now I just purchased a new laptop, Dell xps 15 9560 with a thunderbolt 3 port.

I am looking primarily at the GRaid 8tb thunderbolt 2 drive and the Glyph black box pro USB C drive.
Which one will be better as my primary media drive?
Do I go with thunderbolt 2 via an adaptor (thunderbolt 3 > thunderbolt 2) or do I go with a USB C connection?
Given that Thunderbolt 2 is technically faster is that the way to go?
Or is there a different solution entirely that I’m not seeing?

I can’t afford a thunderbolt 3 8tb set up so that is why I did not mention thunderbolt 3 drives.
I only see the Akitio TB3 enclosure which is 399 and I would need to purchase my own drives on top of that.

I am trying to keep the cost at $500-$600 USD.

    Thanks for the help!
