Questions about Rendering for the “Big Screen”
I’ve been asked to quote on a short animation, basically a humorous “turn your cell phones off” piece, to be shown at a local theater, 30 sec +/-.
I’ve never rendered for film size projection. 2K, 4K?
Any tips from someone with experience would be helpful.

Don’t guess. Get the exact specifications from the folks for whom you’re doing the work. This is not seen as a sign of ignorance but as a sign of professionalism; not asking for delivery specifications is the giveaway of inexperience.

Here are the DCI specs:

Now you need to know if it will be a DCP or just a video file. Then you’ll want the resolution. Then you’ll need to know who will do the packaging for the DCP if it will be a DCP etc.

Tero, that may be useful if this will actually be shown from such a DCP-compliant system, but we don’t even know that. Steve said that this was to be shown at a local theater; for all we know, this local theater shows movies using a DVD player. (Yes, one of my local theaters does exactly that.) So the important thing is simply to ask for delivery specifications.

That is quite right. The pre-movie ads look absolutely horrible here in Finland, but when the lights go out then those ads look alright.
