    Hi,
I am encoding our old video library for upload to our download website. I have NTSC 4:3 AVI files that I convert into MP4 files using the AME and Mainconept H264 codec. What I end up with appears to be true 4:3 in every aspect but when played back it has a tiny horizontal stretch that I had not even noticed. A very pedantic customer pointed it out. I check it and VLC aspect ratio on default is slightly stretched horizontally to when I force it to 4:3 ratio.
The original AVI with all the same ratio settings does no have the stretch. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Would I need to change the frame size slightly (say 700×480) and would this cause any quality loss? Below is the properties of the MP4 files – everyting says this is true 4:3 NTSC!

    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 26.4 MB
    Image Size: 720 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz – compressed – Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz – 32 bit floating point – Stereo
    Total Duration: 00;01;00;02
Average Data Rate: 450 KB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 0.9091
