  fading light

  Howdy!
  I need a spotlight to fade up from zero transparency. Is there a way to do that? I tried the cone and feathering but that doesn’t work too well. Light needs to fade up in the middle of the clip.

  Animate light “intensity”, which takes the place of “opacity” for light layers.

  Thanks Dan!
  I’m wondering if I did something different when I tried it?
  When I animated the
  intensity it made the scene either darker or hotter. I wasn’t able to get it to show the layer beneath in its original state.

  Would animating a layer solid perpendicular to your light source from 0% opacity to 100% solve your “hot” and “cool” problem?

  When you have no lights in the scene AE internally treats it as an Ambient light at 100% intensity. As soon as you add a light it no longer behaves this way and instead uses the light information on your light layers.

  Try creating an Ambient light at 100% intensity, when you want your spotlight to come on animate the intensity of the spotlight from 0% to 100% and the intensity of the Ambient light from 100% to 0%.
