Try cntl+K and the background color option is there.

That’s the background colour for the comp. I need to play the ram preview full screen with a black background. Still can’t figure it out!

Nope, that don’t work either. My comp is 1920 x 1080, in composition settings the background is set to black. I have a black layer at the bottom of the comp. In the preview panel I check Full Screen, and hit the preview button. The movie plays on a grey background. By setting the appearance slider in the preferences I can get it to play on a dark grey background, but not black.

Are you talking about the screen around your movie, not the background of the movie itself, but the container around it?

Yes indeed. When you play a RAM preview after ticking the full screen checkbox and the preview plays in the middle of the screen and the ae interface gets hidden, I want the surrounding grey to be black, just like when you use the present movie function in Quicktime.

You’ve discovered the controls for changing the interface color.

If necessary you could make a new compostion a little larger than your final file, create a black solid and mask out the middle. Drop your final project under the black mask and preview from there. Least then you could see what the final is supposed to look like.
