Is it possible to flatten video clips which have lots of fx on in order to save cpu?
Is it possible to ‘flatten’ a video with fx and graphics on in order to stop playback being so laggy due to the demand on the processor ? So that they all of the Fx become baked into the video file ? But also keep the original fx settings but just have them turned off ?

Render the file.
Select the clip and choose Modify > Render Selection

Thanks for the reply. The only problem with that method is that you will need to re render every time you trim or cut into it. And this can be very time consuming if it’s a big render. I was hoping I could quickly remder And flatten so that you could continue working with the Clíp and not have to re render every time you lengthen or shorten it.

You’d have to export it to flatten it.
Then keep that copy above the original in the timeline. When and if you need to change it, make adjustments to the original, reexport, and reconnect the old export to the new one.
There is no automated process for this in FCPX.

Ah ok many thanks. That’s what I wanted to know, if there was an automated process.
Is there at least a shortcut method for exporting single clips as opposed to having to manually place an in point and out point around them and then deselect all the other video levels that you don’t want in the export etc etc ?

You will have to disable the other clips above by selecting them and hitting v.
‘x’ selects a clips in and out.
Then you have to share.
