I have been digitising some old S-VHS tapes using Final Cut Pro 5 for a couple of years.

This morning, the system just doesn’t work – I just get a “Preview Disabled” message.

The S-VHS recorder is working fine and the Sony DSR-25 is producing an output (checked on a much more modern machine).

    Try trashing preferences.

Thanks for the response – are you able to give me the path of the file?

It’s been a really long time since FCP5.

    Hopefully this will help: https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

But you have to hold option and use the “Go” menu from Finder to get to your Library folder.

Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work.

I have given up, and am now capturing the videos through Quicktime on a iMac.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Did you try reelecting the DV easy setup?

I believe you this control-q, and choose the DV easy setup. The DV deck has to be on and plugged in to firewire before launching FCP5.

Wow, this brings back so many memories! 🙂
