  Audio lost, cannot record nor play back.

  Yesterday I lost all audio in my projects. I tried to record a voice-over but got only a red audio clip with no waveforms. Also nothing played back.
  (To interrupt myself:)
  I think I have found the problem. I recently moved my movie work to an external drive, including my Libraries. These open OK, but with the audio problems noted.
  Now for clarity:
  It seems to me that a New Library needs to be saved onto my Hard Drive.
  Where should (can) I save my New Project?
  Where is the New Event saved to?
  What, and at what point, can I move to my External Drive? Projects? Events? And what is best practice for this?
