Persistent relinking problems with 10.4
Folks I keep having relinking problems with 10.4. A clip will be offline, and I’ll attempt to relink to the source file from which it came. I’ll get relink errors that there’s not enough media to cover the duration or channels must be the same. Yet the offline media and source have the same duration, channels are all there.
I don’t know what’s happening with 10.4, but I did not have this many issues relinking before. Any ideas. Hopefully it’s just human error, but I can’t seem to nail down what’s causing this to happen. I’ll give another editor a library or event with all of the media. They’ll send back an XML of the cut and I can’t relink to the same media that their copy came from. Timing info is changed which truly eludes me.
This is becoming a persistent problem.
The offline one is from another person’s XML. The online version of that audio file is one I imported to compare. Yet that’s the original that I gave the other editor before the XML came back.

As a control, have the editor send a project in a transfer library vs an XML and see what happens.
The tc is definitely off between those two files you’re showing.

Waiting for that transfer library to get back to me. This isn’t the first time this has happened. Here’s a much earlier image of the same situation except here, both clips have the same start, end, and duration and still would not be relinked. If I recall, the only difference between my original clip and the clip in the XML sent back to me were certain channels were off. I can’t imagine relinking would be halted because channels are on for one editor, but channels were turned off for the other editor despite them being from the same source audio.
Again, I’ve never seen so many relinking issues like this prior to 10.4

Yes it seems odd unless something “broke” the metadata to trick FCPX in to thinking it’s a different file? Did any other app touch the files before you tried to relink?
What might help is an xml of the clip from your library, and an xml if that clip from their library. Select the clip in the browser and export an xml of only that clip.

Interesting find per your suggestion Jeremy. Here’s the same file from the transfer library you suggested. Notice it matches my online copy, but when the editor exported an XML I got something that won’t relink. This image is offline simply because it’s transfer library without the media so this is normal.

Yeah, looks like something is weird in the XML.
If you can show comparative XMLs of each of those clips, I’d be curious to see how they are different.
