It’s been six years since I used to author DVD’s and send them out for replication and I need to get up to speed. I used to use apples DVD Studio pro which is no longer. Before that I used Sony’s DVD architect. Here are a couple of general questions.

Will I get better results from creating mpeg2 and AC3 files using compressor.
Or will simply burning a DVD straight out of FCPX yield the same results?

Right no I’m making a straight play (no menu) DVD.

In a month I’ll need to author a DVD with menus.

If I go the compressor route I suppose I’ll need to buy Roxio toast.

Any suggestions as to software to create a DVD from mpeg2 files?

Any authoring packages that I should look into?

There are plenty of companies that still rely on giving out DVD’s.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

So I don’t waste anyones time, I went into compressor and see that I can burn a simple DVD within compressor.

I went and read posts from a year ago about DVD authoring options: DVD Studio pro, DVD architect, Adobe Encore are almost extinct. I don’t have any of these and they can’t be easily purchased.

    Any newer news?

    Roxio toast, Sorenson squeeze?

I’ve not found anything that works quite like DVDSP, which is what I prefer.

I have the dubious distinction of caring for an extensive client archive, and for that reason I keep an old machine running with FCS3… so any call for DVD (it still happens occasionally) has me back in the old neighborhood. My workflow started with self-contained ProRes export from FCP, then to Compressor for the streams, then into DVDSP to build it out.

If this is something you’ll need to do more than a couple of times, you could likely talk someone on this forum into selling you a decomissioned copy for cheap.
