  • No playback on two audio channels imported as ‘four mono’

Posted by Jesse Freeston on June 5, 2017 at 10:09 pm

FCPX imports audio as ‘Four Mono’ with audio from the lapel and boom mics on channels 1 and 2 respectively. Channels 3 and 4 are empty. The waveforms show and the meters go up and down, but there is no playback. (see screengrab)

If I switch to ‘Two Stereo’ in the Inspector I can hear the playback, but I lose the ability to adjust the levels of the two mics individually.

    Any ideas?

I am editing on OS X Sierra and FCPX 10.3.1.
    Shot with Sony PXW-X70.

Edit the multicam clip into a timeline and it will playback the audio.
I’m having the same problem here.

It’s happening since I update to the recent version, I expect it’s a ‘feature’ of the new Roles related stuff, but it’s a real PITA.

    Hey Duncan!

That’s what I’ve been doing too, a bit of a PITA as you say. Have you found a solution in the last couple weeks?

    Duncan & Jesse –

See the reply to Ben above (or below) this thread and try the MIDI configuration fix. Hope it helps.
