  • Settings for sending video by WhatsApp

    Hello!

I have a master in Final Cut Pro of 5 minutes in HD 1920 x 1080 Pro Res.
I have to send it by WhatsApp, so I would like to know which are the best settings to compress it in Final Cut or in Compressor.

Create a mp4 or m4v ? What sizes it´s the best for reproduction in a mobile phone?

    Thank you very much

I would use the Apple Devices 720p setting in FCP X or Apple Devices HD (Most Compatible) in Compressor. You certainly don’t need anything larger than that for most mobile phones and even tablets. This will create an MPEG4 AVC/H.264 video file with AAC audio which should play nicely in WhatsApp.

I believe there is a 16MB limit for videos in whatsapp, so you’ll need lower the bitrate a lot (unless they’ve increased it). Compressor gives you an estimated file size as you fiddle with the bitrate settings.

    Hello:

Thank you so much for your answers. I have use the setting Apple Devices HD (Most Compatible), with the size 960 x540 the bitrate was automatic, the size of the video was 150 Mb. Through AirDrop I sent it to my Iphone and then I sent it through Whatsapp. The final size was 50 Mb.

So it seems that the WhatsApp limit is 50 Mb and the size of the video received by whastApp it´s always of 848 x 480.

I wonder if I should change the initial size of the video, and about the bitrate, I lowered too much and I saw the pixels, I wonder which it´s the limit to see it properly.

    Thank you again

I would. This way you are in control of resizing the video and WhatsApp is only changing the bit-rate. That would give WhatsApp less to do (and less to mess up).
