  after effects green screen with no green screen??

  Ok let me tell you my situation.

  I downloaded trial of after effects and I want to know if there is a way to like make an explosion BEHIND someone with no green screen like i have the explosion cut all ready and everything I just need to know how to make it behind someone not using a green screen. Thank-you. I really hope I’m in the right forum.

  What you need to do is “cut out” the areas of the person that will be in front of the explosion. You make this cut-out part a separate layer, and put it on top of the explosion. So the layer order goes something like this:

  1. Cut-out person (where they intersect with the explosion)
  2. Explosion, cut out
  3. Main footage (presumably with the person in it)

  This is the most basic setup. Other things you can add to sell the effect:
  – a shadow cast by the person (and other objects in the scene) at the moment of the explosion
  – camera shake
  – additional lighting on nearby elements (and the person) illuminated by the explosion

  The “cutting out” process that Ben referred to is usually done using rotoscoping—the manual frame-by-frame drawing and animating of masks. This is very tedious work.

  There are a lot of tools that can make it easier, but which ones are appropriate depend on the specifics of your shot.
