  Question re: Timeline Setting of 30 if Most of the Footage is from 24 legacy videos?

  Hi,

  I am setting the cameras up for tomorrow’s shoot, so if I could get an answer from some gurus today that would be swell!

  I am producing a gala video for projection, the client does not care about streaming. They are providing us with legacy (finished) videos that will be the majority of the media assets and they were shot in 24P. However, my editor prefers 30, but that’s because he usually editors for the end use of being streamed and the web likes 30.

  So my question is: Which will look better when projected:

  • A timeline setting of 30 when the majority of footage is provided as 24?

  • A timeline setting of 24, knowing it is for projection at a banquet?

  I am fairly certain he is editing on X but it may be Premiere.

  I am not an expert, but I vote for using 24 p. It should be as easy to edit in 24 as 30 and assuming the projection system doesn’t care, the quality staying at 24 should be better.

  I agree with Claude. If the majority of the footage is 24p then I would set my timeline for 24p and deliver in 24p. Also, going from 30p to 24p only requires dropping existing frames while going from 24p to 30p requires synthesizing new frames from where there are none! In my experience the former looks better than the latter.

  Also the web doesn’t have a native frame rate- 24p, 30 or otherwise.
