How to convert several wmv and edit them in fcpx
Hallo unfortunately I have hundreds of wmv and I need to edit them in fcpx.
Could you please suggest me a free software to convert them (if it is possible using a batch) so that I can edit them in fcpx?
And, since I’m interested in buying Compressor, should it be possible to convert them with it?

I use Smart Converter to convert to and from Windows WMV files. It uses ffmpeg under the covers which is a very popular open source converter. The free version does not have batch capability but the Pro version does for only $14.99 USD. You can convert the WMV files to MP4 which will allow you to edit them in FCP X.

No, Compressor will not accept nor create WMV files.

Flip4Mac Player Pro $29 is a Quicktime Component that works inside Compressor and will convert WMV to ProRes when used that way.

handbreak is free and good quality. do a search for how to do a batch. requires a batch folder and folder destiny. my words – read the tutorial. haven’t tried a batch but have gotten quality conversion on two hour projects.

Can it transcode to a lossless codec like ProRes?

Hand break, I believe, does not transcode to ProRes. what it does do is ProRes to H.264 very well and fast.
