  Applying Chroma key to a small area of a clip

  I feel like there might be an obvious answer but I can’t figure this one out.

  I have a small TV in the upper right corner of my frame with a green screen over the display so I can insert my own video in the TV.

  I don’t want to apply the Chroma Keyer to the whole frame though, just that little area in the upper right. I can’t just matte it out because occasionally objects cross in front of the screen.

  So does anyone have any techniques for applying an effect to just a portion of the frame?

  Stack two copies of the clip. Use the mask tool to remove the TV in the top clip, key the lower clip.

  Thank you. That’s how I normally do it, it just seems like there could be a better way, like what is built in to the color board effect.

  Sadly, for whatever reason, the Keyer effect doesn’t have built-in masking. You can use the built-in effect masking with a third party keyer like the Hawaiki one but ultimately the mask effect is more versatile than the built in option anyway.
