  • Delete duplicate and iterations of (clip in use) multicams?

Posted by Tangier Clarke on January 19, 2016 at 8:55 pm

Somehow in the process of going back and forth with another editor with projects and event XMLs, I have several iterations of the same multicam clips (noted with a 1, 2, 3, etc. after the clip name)that have been edited into the timeline.

I can’t delete them because FCP X recognizes the duplicates as in use. However the clips in them point to the same Finder-level media.

Any ideas how to handle this?

What problem does this cause? Sounds like the editor duplicated the MC clip for some reason which though referencing the original media are technically valid instances you don’t necessarily want to blow away. Next time, suggest he/she match frame and edit from the original to avoid unnecessary copies being made.

No real problem I suppose. I like to keep my libraries tidy.

I would do some renaming of the dupes and filter them out with smart collection settings in that case vs actually deleting stuff.
