  Alpha Transparency in FCP

  Hi
  I’m a graphic designer, but am not familiar with video editing. I’ve purchased a 10 sec. clip from shutterstock on a black background (with alpha channel, I’ve been assured) and I simply want the extracted object to appear on a white (or transparent) background. This should be easy, and I’ve downloaded FCP and have a 30 day trial, but can figure out how to do it. I’ve added a white background from the generator and played with all the blending settings but can’t just get the object to appear extracted with a white background. What am I doing wrong?
  Any help would be hugely appreciated.

  Hi there,

  I also sent a query to the clip vendor, and even though the description had indicated “alpha channel” included, it turned out that the clip I purchased did not have it! So that explains a lot! Once I understood that it wasn’t something I was doing wrong, I went back and found a more appropriate tutorial (remove black background) using Luma Keying and WAS successful (after a little fiddling and a few false starts) so that my clip is now on a white background! So we’re all good! Thanks.
