How can I edge feather a custom color clip?
I have some text over image and I wanted a bit of darkness underneath the text so it is more offset from the moving image. I inserted a custom generator that’s all black and cropped it to under the text.
The one thing I can’t figure out to do is how to edge feather the custom color clip. It doesn’t come up in the inspector as an option. How can i do that?

Open the generator in Motion and make sure the edge feather option is being published back to FCPX.

I don’t have the newest Motion, only FCP X. Just Motion 4.0.3 that I got when I bought FCP 7 about 5 years ago. Can I still do this?

Drop a Crop & Feather or Draw Mask filter on your generator and adjust accordingly. Don’t use the normal inspector crop tools.

I like Oliver’s answer, but gotta ask: why not just adjust the drop shadow?

Or if the built in text drop shadow doesn’t do it for you, try the seperate drop shadow effect.
