  • FCPX miniDV Capture via Camera Archive – losing media

I’m trying to capture a few dozen tapes as painlessly as possible.

There will surely be timecode breaks so I’m trying to find a way to just capture through breaks – I don’t care if it creates a new file.

I read about FCPX’s camera archive function, which seems perfect.

However, even though it successfully captures a tape, at the end I only get small portion of a 60 minute tape.

It’s as if it reads through the whole tapes, and doesn’t seem to catch any problems, but then deletes most of the capture as soon as its finished.

Has anyone else experienced this? It also happens when I do a normal import.

I captured a few miniDV tapes the other week and one of them completed then disappeared, requiring me to recapture. Unfortunately, I don’t know what caused the issue.

Does your tape go all the way to the end? I had similar problems when the tape i was capturing went all the way to the end. FCPX would always erese the last clip. I found that if I stopped the capture a few seconds before the end of the tape it was fine (except that I didnt get the last few seconds). Partial tapes that didnt go to the end didn’t have this provlem.

My tapes do go until the end, however even when I manually stop it I lose the last piece. I’m trying iMovie now.
