  • How can I import MXF files to FCPX? MXF by sony xdcam

Posted by Chranny Yeohyeon on May 21, 2015 at 12:41 pm

I’ve got an external hard drive formatted as MAC extended.
those mxf files are there, and I installed xdcam transfer plugin.
I just know the mxf files were by sony xdcam, but don’t know which models are.
I need to edit them with FCPX ASAP.
    but CANNOT import them whole.

1st, I couldn’t even see them on import window of FCPX,
2nd, I used a hard drive formatted as Mac extended, now I can see them INFINITE LOADING
3rd, I installed xdcam transfer plugin and content browser.
I see mxf files with content browser but I cannot import them into FCPX with it.
it says it doesn’t have a codec for FCPX. I searched and searched again, couldn’t find
    which codec I should install.

I’m using FCPX registered I actually bought.
I even tried content browser which I got to buy it.
and I tried wondershare video ultimate which I had to buy also.
it only could convert them as only audio files…

    it’s OS X Yosemite ver. 10.10.3
    FCPX ver. 10.2.1

pro video formats are installed as well.

I need to figure out the solution. what is the problem? what’s wrong with FCPX?
I cannot go back to FCP7… please help me out… T.T

Hmmm, I don’t have any problem with MXF files from Canon, but I take them off the memory card and save them on the desktop – just to have two copies for safety. From there FCPX imports them no problem. So maybe if you copy them off your external hard drive which appears to be your problem, you will have some success.

I have no problem importing Sony MXF files directly from my hard drive. I’m guessing that the XDCAM transfer plugin might be causing the problem. At one time that may have been needed but not any longer with FCP X 10.2. It just works natively now. Try removing the XDCAM plugin from your Mac and see if that helps.

I didn’t have the same problem with panasonic 4k cam, either.
but these files are not being importing….
well, I bought acrok software and used it transfering mxf files.
finally worked importing them to FCPX.
I have absolutely no idea what happened.
    I just spent so much money… T.T

I got my new camcorder named Canon XC10 which also recorded videos into MXF format. The problem is that I can not transfer Canon XC10 MXF to FCP X directly. After long time searching, I found a helpful workflow on editing MXF videos in FCP X natively. Hope it also can give you some hint. Good luck!

Have you ever tried to encode XDCAM videos into ProRes for FCP?
