  FCP X and Canopus ADVC 300 or ADVC 110

  Im trying to figure out whether the older ADVC 300 or 100 will work with the latest version of FCP X. Other than getting a conversion cable, Firewire to USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt would be the only obstacle.

  If it will, would one unit provide better quality conversion than the other, or is the difference between them something else?

  Unless you’re getting one for free- I’d recommend getting something more modern from say Blackmagic or even Elgato. Those old Canopus digitizers capture to DV = low quality compared to modern H.264/ProRes.

  I used an ADVC 55 without trouble. Just have to go from Firewire 400 to Thunderbolt. FCPX recognized it and allowed me to capture.

  I’ve used my old ADVC100 and it worked ok, connected with a FireWire 800 to thunderbolt adapter. I can’t remember if I’ve used it since 10.1 though so I can’t confirm it still works with the very latest version of FCPX.
