  Which uncompressed format should I request?

  Hi

  I edit only material shot by myself so the following has never been a problem unit now.

  I have a job to do which involves editing official finished music videos supplied by Record Companies. I’m taking clips from the officially supplied versions and making them part of a new project. Obviously I don’t want to be importing already compressed video, only to edit that and then recompress it on export. They can offer me standard definition mp4 versions using H.264 codec downloadable from an ftp site but is this really what a Broadcaster would get?

  Is there an uncompressed format I should be requesting or do you think everyone, broadcasters included, have to start with mp4s/movs ?

  Not something I’ve ever had to do in the past – hoping someone here might advise?

  I’d ask for 1080p ProRes HQ and see what they say.

  YMMV, I’d call HQ a standard level of pro quality. Certainly wouldn’t want to give the impression that ProRes Proxy is ok to work with as my master format. Proxy sure but online quality- no.
