Applying Transitions – choose the place to drop them like in FCP7?
Hi,
I have a Q considering the Transitions in X: In 7, I could choose, when dragging a clip, if it was supposed to be added to the left, right or centre of the edit point between the two clips. Is there a way to do the same in X?
And: In PPro and AVID I can adjust the sides of the Transition unsymmetrically – can I do the same in X? If yes, how?Greetings,

Yes, that seems indeed one of the big faux pas of X.
It’s still weird to me, that on one side, they made such genius new features into this App, and forgot about the most basic ones a pro app needs – like this feature, or OMF, or many other things.
I really hope, they close that gap soon, since I do thing X is in many ways pretty genius.
I have a project right now, where the client brought mixed frame rates – PAL & NTSC – and I threw it all on one PAL TL and it work fantastic in real time.Sascha Engel

I will check out, first thing in the morning, when I come to the studio (here the week starts on Sunday;-)Hope it will do what I need.
Unfortunately, all transitions should behave like that in X.
That it’s only applicable to the centre and only possible to change right and left symmetrical is a shame.Sascha Engel

I hope, I describe it the right way, out of my head. I don’t have the app in front of me right now:
When you drop the transition in the TL on the edit points, if you drag on either right or left side, you lengthen or shorten the transition. If you grab either end of the transition in the upper grey part, you do a Ripple edit of the transition to either side, and when you grab and move the symbol in the upper middle of the Transition, you do a roll edit. With those function you can do exactly what I was looking for.Greetings,

I have been using the Precision Editor for this which makes it easier to see.
It would still be useful to be able to select one of the three “start on” end on” etc though.

FWIW, that’s not the case with all transitions. Specifically with “Dip to Color” , you can adjust the mid-point with a slider in the inspector, effectively letting you choose to start at the beginning, end, or anywhere in between the 2 clips. Way better than the “old” way. Sadly, that adjustment doesn’t exist in the Dissolve. Send feedback! 🙂
