  • Copy media to event after crash

Posted by Michael W. towe on April 2, 2013 at 4:16 pm

So I have imported a a handfull of quicktime files and told X to copy the media to the event. However while copying the media X crashed. After reopening the media in the event is just pointers to the original media. Is there anyway to force X to now reimport the footage and copy to the event folder?

    Thanks

It depends at what point it crashed. What happens when you select the offline files and File>Relink Event Files?

Not sure I follow. The files are not offline since the drive they were first imported from is still attached. The issue is that the files in the event are just pointers to the drive they were imported from. What I want to do is restart that copying process so that the files in the event folder are the actual files, not just pointers.

    I hope that makes sense,

Right you can force relink to the originals via that command- assuming you have the original files someplace you can get to them. Otherwise you can also try File>Organize Event Files when selecting the Event which should copy the original clips into your Event folder. Just out of curiosity- why is this an issue? Whether it’s references or the actual media- it’s pretty much the same effect inside FCPX.

Thanks James, I was unaware of the Organize Event command. The reason it’s important is more of a personal preference than anything else. I like to have everything copied to the event folder so that I have one nice neat package to work with when it comes to archiving the project. I’m annal that way.

    Thanks again!!
