using scrubber
Hi,
ok, I think i have figured out that the scrubber on allows me to move left and right through the thunbnail in the Event Library to scrub through the footage, but when it is on and I am in the timeline it proves a pain to me because whereever my mouse is currently hovering is where it will start playing from when I hit space, so mostly I want it off so I can use the timeline as i prefer.
but it means when i want to scrub through footage in my bins, because i don’t have the option of dragging along the bottom of the clip in the viewer i have to switch it on again and then off again, yada yada, but when I click on the thumbnail to drag through it (ie scrub) it obviously doesn’t let me but takes the clip to enable me to drop it into the timeline.
Is there any way of setting things up so perhaps left click can scrub through the timeline with scrubber off and right click can allow me to grab the clip to put it in my timeline so as to avoid the constant on off of scrubber when moving between the event library and the timeline?

Sorry, in addition is there a way to turn the audio on so when i scrub through the clips in my bins I can hear the audio too, even if it is as the same speed as my scrubbing, or is it always mute?

In case someone else comes by because of the question, now this isn’t perfect but I have accidently discovered if you click on the thumbnail bit and hold a sec then scrub let and right it starts and widens/narrows the yellow border for the in out points, so as a rough and ready work around it does allow scrubbing through clicking a little. doesn’t appear to work if you click inside an in/out section (yellow border). I guess it is a start 🙂

Actually (and sorry for keeping coming back) the value of the scrubber in the thumbnails bit makes sense to me but it really annoys me in the timeline – I can see how it works, as in click play and it vanishes so you can jump around by clicking, but then stop and it reappears after a sec – but the value of it to me feels far less than the annoyance.
So, is there a way to simply disable the scrubber when on the timeline and have it always on on the thumbnails?
if not, that would be a great feature as it means no need to hit S when swapping between the two and both areas function as each individual wants.

Tried Clip Skimming in the timeline yet ? Very valuable INMHO when compositing… may make you like skimming (oh yes, it IS called the Skimmer 😉

had a little go. See some value in it though I can replicate it by dragging along the top of the timeline as before. Thing is the advantages of it seem to out weigh the annoyance of the fact i use a mouse a lot and my cursor hovers here and there and suddenly i hit space and start viewing it somewhere i don’t want to.
I’d rather just turn it off on the timeline so i don’t have to keep hitting s to switch between using the timeline and scanning clips in my bins

Just move your mouse cursor off of the timeline, so the skimmer isn’t showing in the timeline when you hit play, it will play from the playheads position.
Audio skimming is enabled/disabled with the button next to the skimmers toggle.

ok, that’s a valid suggestion, will see how i get on with it. My default position (ie where my hand and thus the cursor rests) is generally on the timeline but i will try and see. Cheers for pointing that out though, appreciated.

No problem, that’s how I got used to it but now it the skimmer is just instinctive to me and I love it.

He’s speaking about clip skimming, which is very cool. Stack 3 or 4 clips on top of each other, as if you were compositing something. “normal” skimming, and/or dragging the playhead over that section, will show you the top clip, or composite of all shots. With clip skimming on, hover over any clip in the pile and you will see only that clip, and the TC display will show the source clips TC. Very useful. Works for individual audio clips too.
