I finally gave in to using FCPX. Just about everything seems to be in perfect, working order.

However, any video I import into the browser doesn’t seem to be willing to playback.

I can import it and even hear the video’s audio perfectly fine. The only problem I am facing is that when I import it into my timeline, it doesn’t seem to play. I never see the video itself in the preview aside from the couple of visible frames in the browser.

Any attempt to play the timeline with video in it results in a rainbow-wheeling.

EDIT: Not sure if this might have something to do with my having a three-monitor setup.

Yes that is the rub with FCP X, it doesn’t actually let you play back video. Perhaps that is why there is so much FUD about it. Sorry I couldn’t resist. 😉

Seriously, start with some basic troubleshooting, and yes, try running with just 1 monitor and see if perhaps the graphics card is a problem. Here are some troubleshooting basics:

If you are still having trouble give Apple care a call.
