  FCPX edit looks good, Share to DVD has 2 or 3 glitches in playback from DVD player

  I’m new to non linear editing. Just purchased Final Cut Pro X; I’m shooting baseball footage and my edits are fairly simple. I’m shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II, importing to Apple Pro Res, and my computer is an iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H disc drive.
  When I finish my project I go to Share-DVD and everything seems to be working OK. When I put the finished DVD in a DVD player I get an occasional glitch where the video and audio freezes and then resumes after dropping several frames – sometimes 2 or 3 seconds of video. Everything looks fine in FCPX. The problems usually occur toward the end of the DVD. These videos are usually 15 to 20 minutes long. Has anyone had a similar experience? I’ve shot 6 games so far and this has happened with every DVD I’ve produced. Thanks in advance to anyone who could share their insight.

  IMO, the new DVD pre-sets are very aggressive (high) with average bit rate of 7.7 Mbs and 9.0 maximum. For broader playability, Share>DVD>Advanced Settings and in Compressor roll these numbers to around 6.2 and 7.5, which are the settings for the previous versions of Compressor.

  Thanks. I did go into Compressor but the setting were around 7.5 and 6.0. Will lowering these settings further affect resolution or other quality parameters OR just take longer to render. I don’t mind waiting if the video is good. I will try lower settings and report what happens. Thanks again

  I’ve got a little egg on my face but the problem turned out to be that -R discs have issues but +R discs burn just fine. I had the +R discs laying around and tried one and it worked just fine. I’m editing on an iMac bought in 2010 but the -R discs in question always worked flawlessly in an 2009 MacBook Pro for stills while the +R discs wouldn’t work at all. I thought the DVD burner in these machines was adaptable to any disc. Don’t understand why. I learned quite a bit about codecs and Compressor 4 in the processor so I guess it wasn’t wasted time. Just wanted to share.
