  • Custom Clip Naming gets order wrong

Posted by Michael Garber on April 20, 2012 at 4:29 am

    Hi all,

Someone posted this a while back and there was no answer to it. So, I am assuming this should be filed under bugs to be fixed.

That said, if anyone has any info on a workaround for this, please let me know.

I have a bunch of clips and want to give them a custom name based on reel name and clip number in order of date created. Pretty normal stuff. But FCP renames them out of order.

I haven’t yet been able to figure out what metadata FCP is using in the way it orders the numbers of the clips. Maybe that’s the culprit.

In any case, a trouble ticket has been sent. Look forward to someone’s response. Thanks!

I have the same problem. Sometimes I use a simple “Rename” program to change the files name in Scratch “Original Media” folder. If someone knows another way…

I’d like to try and help, but can you give me your exact steps?

This appears to be a known bug. I have reported it to Apple, but it would be great to share your feedback to because “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.”

BTW. It is no joke when Apple says they read all the comments to that form. They really do read all the feedback.

I had this same problem when I updated .3 to .4, however I decided to re-format my OS (don’t ask) and downloaded a fresh 10.0.4 directly from the app store.

    Problem is now gone..!

Try this for curiosity, create a new user account, open applications, click on FCPX & allow it to install, then import some material and try batch renaming.

Let’s us know how you go?

[Tony Sarafoski] “Try this for curiosity, create a new user account, open applications, click on FCPX & allow it to install, then import some material and try batch renaming.”

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, didn’t work for me. Will try re-downloading the app and let you know.
