Can see compound clip in timeline index but doesn’t show up in the “project window”
OK, so I’m concerned here, because I don’t have this backed up…but I’m encouraged somewhat.
Everything else in FCPX seems to be working correctly…but I’m having this one issue. I have a compound clip that is about 1 minute long inside a master project. It’s the opening to a a video. I was going to break each segment out into a compound clip in one project.
When I open the project from the project library, it opens normally…but I can’t see anything. Shift+Z doesn’t show anything…can’t zoom in or out, no time reference or scroll bar. completely blank…no “primary storyline” black bar you would normally see.
If I click timeline index, I can see 2 clips.
1. Gap – Position 00:59:56:12
2) Compound clip that I named and gave notes – Position 00:00:00:00If I click on the gap clip, the inspector shows 3 tabs – Generator / Video / Info
No options or information on Generator or Video…but info shows start and end at 00:00:00:00 and duration of 00:00:00:00.
If I click on the compound clip, I’m encouraged..I have all relevant Video / Audio / Info and it shows a duration of 1:05:19 and it shows roles and everything else I’d normally expect to see.
I’ve trashed pref’s, reinstalled the app…and done just about everything I can think of. Need some help.

Thanks for replying…I spent 4 hours on a plane and I think I figured it out.
Seems I have a corrupt “project”. Here’s how I determined it and how I got my media back:
I was experiencing all kinds of wierdness so I got rid of everything and went to one single project and one event. Everything was working fine.
I brought things back one by one in the project library until I started having issues.
(This was all using event manager which, by the way, is a great app!)
When I bring this ONE project back online, it corrupts the entire app…no projects open correctly and everything gets squirrley. When it’s not in the library, all seems to be working correctly.
How I got my edited sequence back was a couple steps.
1) open corrupt timeline, nothing shows except 2 clips in the timeline index.
2) Select the compound clip in the timeline index and “open in timeline”
3) CMD+A and copy all clips.
4) Paste all clips into new sequence.This worked. If I just tried to copy the compound clip, it would create a new corrupt project.
Upon further investigation, I found something very strange that I will attach as an image. There is a gap clip that doesn’t seem to have a duration, (it stays the same size when zooming) and isn’t in the timeline index.
This screengrab was from a much earlier version of this project that I had happened to duplicate. I think this is where the bad things started.
I grabbed 3 views to give you perspective of how it doesn’t change.

That definitely looks like a bug of some sort. It appears the slug extends beyond the 0 hour.

Hey Jason,
Couple of quick thoughts – how big (GB) is the project and how often did you delete render files.
This sounds, sadly, like the two projects we had corrupted and I’d like to know if it’s attributable to management.
Not to scare you, but spend some time examining any media that was associated with the corrupt project…they can get corrupted as well.
Also, were there any outside graphics in the segment that went bad?

I’m not sure how big it is honestly…maybe 200GB of prores – 150 clips – 3hrs content? Maybe? It’s my family’s vacation video…I’m not ready to cut client stuff on it yet. Using a family project to get my feet wet.
It’s my first project in FCPX so I haven’t deleted any render files…not really any compositing…maybe 2 graphics right now. It’s only about 10% cut.
