So, I have video footage from a two camera shoot. Each camera was set to capture just the audio of the subject it was pointing at (with a little bit of spill).

I sync everything up and then turn it into a multicam clip. So far, so good.

The problem starts when I start switching between camera angles. If I select the option to switch the audio and video together then I lose the audio of the subject if I want a reaction shot of the other person.

Selecting to switch between video only just gets me one audio track and not both. Even if I go inside the multicam clip and select to monitor both audio tracks.

The third option, which is audio switching only isn’t what I’m looking for.

So, does anyone know what I’m doing wrong. I even tried exporting out just the audio and bringing it back in, but that didn’t work either. When I use the new audio to sync with the two video clips I would hear noting when I dragged it to the timeline. No idea why it did that.

Sorry if this all seems confusing, but if anyone has any ideas that would be great. I’m dealing with 85 minutes of video here so playing around with this stuff takes time. If there’s a quick solution I’d love to hear it.

    Cheers,

    Ray

I just faced a similar situation with a three-camera shoot and tried two different workarounds:

    1. Exported just the audio tracks from each clip, then combined those tracks into a single separate track in an external audio-editing application; and

    2. Exported just the audio tracks, then made them into a single multicam clip within FCPX.

Both approaches worked, but I preferred and ended up using Option 1.

Thanks for the tips, Joel. I ended up using number one, as well. Both look like they would work though.
