Anyone know why I get the Beach ball for 2min 6 times an hr.? Editing ProRess 422

Really? 6Gigs is not enough, even when working with proxy files? Because I get the beach ball with proxy or full PR 422 files. If it’s going to solve the problem i’ll go tomorrow to buy more RAM. It’s driving me crazy!
Please advise -
More details please, amount of footage, codec, project length, event size etc

40min ProRess 422 timeline. I dumped all the B-Roll files (Aporx 3-5 sec each shot) removed (Detached audio) all the audio and now i’m selecting the and trimming the shots i want to keep. Once I select and trim a shot on the B-Roll timeline I copy and paste it to my main program timeline . While scanning or triming i get the beach ball for about 1 to 2min about 6 times per hr.
Please advise!

Please advise”You can open up Activity Monitor to keep an eye on your RAM usage to verify. I was using 8GB of RAM, but I was using it all up, so I upgraded to 16GB. Now I can work much longer before hitting the RAM wall.

Like I said, I have 6GB (3×2). Can I buy an 8GB card and add it to the empty slot or do I have to pair up and buy 2 8GB?

You are not using your system drive for media are you?
Are your drives in raid 0 or 5 config?
Fast drives are a must and raid 0 or 5 is really the way to go.
Also invest in DiscWarrior. You may have corrupted directories on your discs, DW will fix this most of the time and speed things up. This happens a lot. I DW my discs every couple months just as maintenance.

Im using G-Tech drives since they came out. Never had an issue with FCP 7. ProRess 422 all day long! I don’t think that’s the issue, but thanks.

I’ve found longer sequences can slow down very quickly, if you can, split into 2 projects and see if that helps, also turn off background rendering if you haven’t already
Are you using any third party filters or effects?
