XDCAM import/export
Posted by Eric Sternberger on February 2, 2012 at 9:00 amHi Cow,
I didn´t test FCPx yet, because of all the shortcomings regarding professional use…
But the new Version with Broadcast-Monitoring and XML-Output seems worth a try.
But: What about XDCAM import and export (to disc), does it work in FCP 10.0.3???
I would need that feature in my workflow….Gustavo Seabra replied 14 years, 2 months ago 7 Members · 13 Replies -

February 2, 2012 at 2:58 pmNot from the app. You’d still need XDCam transfer software.

February 2, 2012 at 3:09 pmHi Jeremy,
so it works like I´m used to from FCP 7 ?
Timeline>export to Sony xdcam>render>burn to pdw-u1??
…that would be fine

February 2, 2012 at 3:17 pmThere’s no export to XDCam option from within FCPX.
You’d have to export a ProRes movie and transcode, or use a compressor setting to go to XDCam codec, then use Sony software. Have to make sure you have setup roles for mono.

February 2, 2012 at 4:36 pmI´m able to use compressor to make an XDCAM File from ProRes. But Compressor 3.5 ironically only gives you the option to make an XDCAM file with Stereo-Audio, which is unsupported on XDCAM disc. However you can change that manually if you need to.
But I don´t now how to start the XDCAM-Export PLugin without FCP.
So far, I only used Sony Transfer to get files in – but how do you export files to disc with it?
Where is the button ;-)?? -

If you export a self contained multitrack QT using Roles from FCPX, you can choose dual mono.

February 3, 2012 at 9:51 amHi Jeremy,
I´m sorry to say that myself, but there seems no way to output to XDCAM-Disc without final cut.
At least not on the mac-platform. XDCAM-Browser didn´t help either.

February 3, 2012 at 12:38 pmI didnt think this was possible at all.
Ive always wanted to export to a virtual disc (the purple ones).
Ive been using XDCAM for years on the Avid side and I brought this up to Avid if it was possible.
The answer then was no. -

February 3, 2012 at 1:20 pmSorry guys, I was mistaken. I thought Sony Browser could do it.
There was supposed to Sony support (according to Apple) that was announced a while ago, but nothing has come of it.
Must be taking longer than they thought.
Seems weird that Sony doesn’t have a stand alone utility.

February 3, 2012 at 3:38 pmthis whole XDCam thing is half-baked, if you ask me…
I´m glad our clients move on faster (than Sony) and we will deliver our masters only via upload soon.
No Disc or Tape-fuss anymore… and expensive units that are crap and useless in the first place

Very true, it was always going to be a transitional format.
