adding text to label something in a video
I am making video that labels (text+arrow) particular things in a video. My problem is that the video has a downward pan and the label remains fixed. So as the video pans down my label “becomes” wrong. I tried just fading the label out but then it is not on for long enough
I want to be able to pan(?) the “text” upwards as the video pans downward.
I don’t know what technical terms to search for to achieve this affect in FCE.
Pointing me in any direction would be very helpful

Are you talking about Final Cut Express and just posted in the wrong forum? Or are you talking about Final Cut Pro X?
The answer is similar but the steps are different. You need to keyframe the movement of the text and arrow to move up while the video pans down.

Unfortunately you can’t move your post. Just repost, is perfectly fine.
However in answer to your question what you want is some kind of motion tracking. After Effects and Motion have point trackers built in. Mocha is perhaps the best tool for this but might be bit pricy.

If you don’t have either one, Motion 5 is your cheapest option. $50 at the Mac App Store.
Alternatively you could keyframe and try motion tracking by hand. Not terribly difficult, but it’s results sometimes look not so good depending on the footage.

Thank you I will look into those.
I have been experimenting with keyframes and motion. It sometimes looks like my two year old is playing with the mouse that is controlling the text movement.
