  Cannot get simple Audio only Crossfade to work!!!!!!! OMG

  Tearing my hair out here. I love FCP X but it keep messing with me I really want it to work.

  Ok I want to add a audio crossfade. Seemingly very simple, I even got this great plugin

  This is what I am doing

  Detach Audio from two clips

  then select the two audio clips

  then command G to create secondary storyline

  then select the desired edit point

  command T to put a default transition on to audio tracks audio only

  This works fine I have tested it on two clips at the end of the timeline. But within the edit I have just completed it does not work. The transition appears to get added but I cannot hear the crossfade.

  To add to this the bottom half of the green audio track (I know it’s not called a track anymore but that’s what it looks like) is now shaded blue. I can’t for the life of me work this out.

  sending me crazy I use these all the time, any help much appreciated

  Have you tried just crossfading the audio with the drag handles?

  yeah that worked but it takes ages. I edit news to tight deadlines, I need a way to quickly do this. The functionality is there but it wasn’t working for me hence the post. What are those mysterious blue shaded sections?

  Did you try adding the audio only cross fade to main storyline without detaching the audio? That transition that Alex made wa meant to be used without detaching audio.

  The shaded blue is what happens when you perform an J-Cut on the audio of a clip in the primary storyline. FCPX let you see the audio waveform for the full duration of the clip but ‘Blues-Out’ where you have have trimmed out the audio in a J-Cut.

  I’m guessing here but since you can’t hear the audio transition and it is “Blued-Out” you might have done something similar to a J-Cut with the audio. Is it possible you have dual mono or stereo audio with one channel silent and have trimmed the channel with audio but not trimmed the client channel?
