  Markers and Sub-Frame Audio

  Hi there, so I’m editing a music promo and I listend to the track and manually put in a load of markers on the beats.

  I then went through frame by frame and placed some more markers. When I got to the markers that I paced just by hitting M some were in between two frames.

  I’m assuming they are sub frame level? I know that if I press command right arrow I can go along at sub frame level.

  My question is why is this useful. If I can only place pictures at each frame what good id a Marker at sub-frame level when the rest of the programme works in frames?

  I’m sure the answer is obvious but I don’t know much about audio editing,

  Audio works at the subframe level. If you open a clo in the timeline you can shift the audio to 1/80th of a frame. You can also do it in the project if the audio is broken apart. It does make lining up markers awkward though.

  Sure understood but how do you line up a clip to this audio. Are you saying you can put a marker at the halfway point between two frames then line up a clip to that?

  No, you can’t, which is why it’s awkward. You can line up other audio, but having markers at subframe level is often more a hindrance than a help.

  You notice the benefits of sub-frame editing when you’re dealing with frankenbiting and multiple microphone phasing. Being able to edit the audio in a sub frame environment is very nice in those circumstances.
