I’m working on an interview edit and I’ve got all the interview footage (minus titles at the head and tail) as a compound clip because I wanted to add some audio enhancements to all the clips at once. I now have some feedback based on specific timecode, but if I go to “Open in timeline” to edit, the timecode doesn’t match the main program because of the elements that are not in the compound clip. If I “Break Apart Clips” in the main timeline, then I lose the audio enhancements that I made. Any thoughts on how best to handle this?

Jason- yeah I see the issue. Here’s what you could try:

1- Copy the Compound Clip in your timeline.
2- Paste the copy after your existing clip.
3- Break apart the original Compound Clip.
4- Make your edits on the original clips (timecode shown for the sequence will match your notes)
5- When you’re done, select the clips and Make New Compound clip.
6- Select the copied compound clip you made in step 1.
    7- Copy it with Command-C.
8- Select the compound clip you made from the newly edited clips, in step 5.
    9- Edit>Paste Effects.

Now you’ll have a compound clip with all the edits you needed to make with the original timecode while still keeping the audio adjustments you made on the Compound Clip.

Next time, try the timecode generator to burn in timecode that matches whatever you need to make edits later.

Thanks, James. I ended up just duplicating the whole project (that’s what I do for each revision anyway). Then when I finished the changes in the new version, I went back to version 1 to reference the settings I had used previously. I’m not sure if it’s possible to copy and paste audio enhancements.
