  “BG Custom Angle Wipes”

  This is an FCP X Effect preset.

  This FCP X effect preset enables you to add custom angle wipes / masks to your image, not as a transition but as an effect.

  Therefore you can choose to animate / keyframe the effect any you like or just use it as a static mask.

  Download FCP X: BG Custom Angle Wipes

  There are many different uses for this effect:

  – Reveal a layer on over black / background of your choosing
  – Create an angled wipe between 2 or more different layers (add a layer on top and apply the effect to this layer)
  – Use the preset to wipe / reveal on text or logos
  – Use the wipe between 2 of the same clips, one with a colour effect applied, one without, and create a nice blend between the two.
  – Use as a colour correction before / after wipe tool when working with clients. (duplicate graded layer, remove grade and add wipe preset)
  – Sadly no option in this version to make a good cup of coffee…Apple have not released the API’s for that yet 😉

  Preset Controls:

  – Four built in wipe presets: From Top Right, From Top Left, From Bottom Right and From Bottom Left
  – Wipe amount control
  – Wipe softness / falloff control
  – Small refinement of wipe angle
  – Reposition / Rescale the image within the masked area

  Nice idea – will be very useful.

  Here’s something similar I was playing with:

  2836_archive.zip

  Two related effects for shaping the lighting of an image, one for darkening the edges and the other for lighting up a “spotlit” area, with options for blur and glow.
