  • Pasting video filters kills audio keyframes

Just lost some hours of work after copying and „pasting“ video effects (manly color correction attributes and filters) from one clip to multiple others. Before that I had done a lot of audio keyframing within each individual clip, but didn’t keep an eye on those keyframes. Otherwise I would have noticed them disappear during my color correction session, simply by pasting a video effect through the menu command. The only „save“ way of pasting video attributes seems to separate audio from video first. But this is a rather inelegant way. Anyone else seeing this happen?

Here’s what I discovered. It’s not an issue with the video effects. I was able to copy several video effects across dozens of clips without affecting their audio keyframes.

The problem is if the clip you are copying from has any audio adjustments made to it they will be copied onto the other clips, effectively wiping out any individual keyframing you managed to do.

This is undoubtedly due to the fact that the copy/paste effects feature doesn’t allow you to pick and choose which effects are pasted. Hopefully Apple rectifies this soon cuz it makes this feature pretty much unusable.

An interesting thing I noticed was that if I made keyframe adjustments in Timeline Mode (CMD+SHIFT+O), then those keyframes were not affected. Only the global adjustments made at the project level.

Thanks Andy, this will save me a lot of time in the future. Hope the pick and choose feature will be soon reintroduced. Or the ability to simply drag a clip’s filter out of the info box onto another clip in the storyline.

I noticed the Timeline Mode behavior too. You’d be able to modify audio levels in two different places, for example lift audio to 12db in Timeline Mode and then again in Edit Mode. Not sure wether Timeline Mode adjustments reflect changes on clip level in your event collection though. Will try that out later…

Changes made to a clip instance opened in Timeline Mode are NOT reflected in the master clip in the Event Browser. However, you CAN open a clip from the Event Browser in Timeline Mode and make changes to it (ie: add filters, adjust audio, etc.) and those changes will be reflected in every instance that you edit into your project.
