hmmm… a small test that impressed me
i have a feature film project that i’m almost done with.
it was shot on Canon DSLR.
55 32GB cards.
the original cards are on an external RAID0 HD connected via eSATA.
opened a new event (on that same drive), and chose “import files”.
then selected all 55 cards as well as 24 audio cards.
de-selected transcode options and hit importthen i waited
it took 3 minutes to get a message about stuff that couldn’t be imported (THM files, several TXT files etc’)
then about 4 minutes of the “importing files” bar
then 3 minutes of beach-ball
then all 4770 items appeared, no thumbnails yet, but all smart collections (based on folders) showed up.
and then 2 more minutes of beach-ball and all thumbnails showed up.then i waited for 5 more minutes of that damn ball…
and decided to crash the app, had a feeling that when i reopen i’ll have access to all my files and could work with no beach balls.and it worked 🙂
that’s about 17 minutes for 1.15 TB of DSLR video and WAV audio files
and 4770 items.this is very fast.
needless to say, i could quite smoothly work with the native files, and it didn’t hurt my real-time, even when i had FX applied.
the system i tried this on is a 4 year old 8 core with 12 GB of RAM.
